Larry looked at his watch impatiently and growled in the back of his throat, "According to Janette, I need to get you back in time for supper."
"Supper?" Serenia complained in her mind. Her muscles were sore, and she wasn't sure if she would be able to move once she got to her new home. Somehow, she just didn't think she could voice her thoughts aloud. She might get slapped.
She was allowed to take off her skates and put on her street shoes. He escorted her home as if she would run away. More and more, Serenia was realizing that she was a prisoner.
She grudgingly started dinner, but she was too slow for Janette, who came in and started screaming at her to hurry up. Serenia flinched as she did what she was told.
Soon, supper was on the table, and once again, she was left with scraps as if she was a dog.
She was happy when she was finally able to go to her room-however cold and ugly it was. She cuddled under her blanket and stared up at the ceiling.
She didn't have to wait too long before Josh came to join her. "What are you still doing here?" he asked.
"What do you mean?" Serenia looked at him with confusion written all over her face.
"Why don't you just run away?"
Serenia sighed as she looked back up at the ceiling, "Because I have nowhere to go."
"Why don't you go to my cousin? I heard you two were friends." there was a slight hint of jealousy.
